Perfect Poke Branding
A casual poke restaurant located in Hilo, Hawai'i that specializes in high-quality poke bowls.
CASE STUDY
Perfect Poke believes in creating high-quality poke bowls while honoring the history of where it all began. Perfect Poke prides itself on using delicious, seasonal ingredients while valuing aesthetics.

Goals
The goal of this passion project was to create a unique logo, menu design, and bowl packaging while maintaining an Instagram-worthy and delicious aesthetic.

strategy + brainstorming
Who it's for: influencers, foodies, food bloggers, people who use social media (Instagram)

•  Where it will be used: social media, menu design, apparel, packaging

•  Key brand words: cultured, modern, delicious, fancy, Instagram-worthy, high-quality

Initial sketches and research involved looking up Instagram-worthy art and brands. Many brands used blocky, sans serif text juxtaposed with colorblock illustrations. Research also involved the origins of poke.

I wanted the final logo to use "octopus" in some way, as that is how traditional poke was made. I also wanted to come up with a modern, easy-to-remember tagline that could be used on social media and apparel.
LOGO
Traditional poke is often made with he'e or "octopus."

I wanted the main logo to reflect this to truly honor the origin of poke and its roots.

TAGLINE
I came up with the tagline "Okay, Poke." It’s a perfect fit for the brand—short, sweet, and lighthearted.

The tagline is easy to remember and versatile enough for apparel and other brand collateral.
design strategy
• Menu Design: There are several details of Hawaiian culture within the design. Most notably, the signature poke bowl dishes are named after the traditional Hawaiian word for each protein. In the top left corner, there is also a definition of "poke" and its origin.

• Colors: Because Perfect Poke values aesthetics and appearance, I wanted to use a color palette that was fun, vibrant, and unique. This was a perfect opportunity for me to curate a color palette with neon green.

• Illustrations: I drew inspiration from color block illustrations to create the brand graphics. I wanted to create a cool, modern brand that would encourage people to snap photos of the food and share them on Instagram.
